Japan did not attend the joint US-Japan-South Korea press conference due to the Dokdo dispute
According to reports, on November 17, local time, the United States, Japan, and South Korea held a tripartite meeting at the deputy foreign minister level. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Sherman, Japanese Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Ken Ryo Mori, and the first official of the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong-gun attended the meeting. According to the report, the meeting discussed China-related issues, the new crown epidemic, climate change and other issues.
However, after the tripartite talks ended, Japanese and South Korean officials did not attend the joint press conference after the meeting. According to the report, the joint press conference of the United States, Japan and South Korea was originally scheduled to be held in Washington, but because Japanese officials refused to share the stage with South Korean officials, they were absent. The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs later stated that it was aware of Japan's position in advance, so the South Korean representative did not attend the press conference.
