Jude 1:8-10 Don’t talk about people or things you don’t understand
Have you ever been in a conversation with someone who is acting like an expert in a subject, yet you can tell they know nothing about what they are talking about? Having played sports my entire youth occasionally you would run into an armchair quarterback who would tell you how bad the local coach is doing and how much better they could do. The longer they speak the more you realize they have no clue what is going on and you begin to wonder if they have even ever seen the sport played much less played it themselves. It happens outside the realm of sports as well as people love to talk about educators, politicians, bosses, and community leaders as well with no self-experience in who to do it any better themselves. They just have opinions. Jude tells those whom he is writing to that the individuals who abuse God’s grace are a lot like these individuals. They make accusations and claims about things they have absolutely no knowledge of, they live their lives oblivious to the spiritual world that surrounds them and celestial beings functioning in it.
Jude explains that the Archangel Michael didn’t even make railing accusations against the fallen angel Satan and simply evoked the highest power in existence to rebuke him. He simply said, “the Lord rebuke the.” He says that those who seek to abuse the grace of God and live without boundaries are essentially slandering the commands handed down by heavenly beings and God Himself. He says that they are behaving out of instinct like an animal instead of recognizing the higher power of our existence. You would expect his type of behavior by the world, but the scary thing is that it has taken a stronghold in the church as many have abandoned the commands of God to follow their instinct. Jude says that realize they are corrupting themselves and placing themselves on a path that leads to eternal separation from God. God is the ultimate authority in our existence and to ignore His commands and live our lives oblivious to them makes us as foolish as those Jude is speaking of.
