Secretary of State Pompeo News Conference
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo answered a wide range of questions on the U.S. strike that killed Iranian General Soleimani January 3, 2020. He told reporters the president had an “entirely legal, appropriate” basis for the decision, and later pushed back on claims that the Iranian general was in Iraq for a diplomatic visit. Secretary Pompeo also spoke on the legal vetting of the strike and commented on the strike being part of the administration’s “maximum pressure” campaign.
