Sunday Longplay - Mega Man: The Wily Wars (Genesis) - Mega Man 1

This week on Sunday Longplay, in honor of my 10th anniversary on YouTube, I'm revisiting more classics that I played on my channel many years ago. This week I'm playing a remake of the first Mega Man game on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive compilation Mega Man: The Wily Wars.

This compilation contains 16-bit remakes of the first three games in the Mega Man Classic series, as well as an exclusive mini-game called Wily Tower unlocked as a reward for beating all three main games. It was not released in the US until the Genesis Mini, and the EU version only ran at 50hz rather than 60, so if the game and the music seem slower than normal, that's why.

I wanted to do something different with this playthrough than I did with my previous playthrough of the NES version from 2012. In my old playthrough, I fought every boss with their weakness. This time I decided to challenge myself by playing it Snupster-style. For those unfamiliar with this style, Snupster% is a speedrun category for Mega Man games created by a community called Snupster, founded by a man named Nico Thulin (QA tester for Mega Man Unlimited and Mega Man Rock 'n Roll, creator of the Nico Evaluates series). The Snupster community's best-known challenge is trying to beat all of the robot master stages in the Mega Man Classic series while taking no damage, using only the uncharged peashooter, and not missing a shot. I actually used to do this challenge myself for a while under the name Mega Man Annihilation. And during their community Mega Man races, they have a rule saying you can only use the Mega Buster through the robot master stages. This rule ended up becoming its own speedrun category called Snupster%. I decided to replay the first three Mega Man games in The Wily Wars in Snupster% style to challenge myself.
