Punjab Assembly elects new Speaker and Deputy Speaker

Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) candidates Sibtain Khan and Wasiq Qayyum have been elected as new Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly respectively. The office of Speaker fell vacant after Speaker Punjab Assembly Pervez Elahi became Chief Minister Punjab.

Speaker Sibtain Khan scored 186 votes and his rival from PML(N) got 175 votes. Wasiq Qayyum was elected Deputy Speaker unopposed.

Prior to the election of new Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum, the House passed a no-confidence motion against the sitting Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari with 186 votes and he was voted-out of his office.
