The PENGUIN, Movement for Recovery 30 HOUR Ultra.
This was an amazing journey. One of the most challenging things I’ve done and I’ve done some crazy shit. I’ve ran many ultras ranging from 50k to 100 miles. This was different. It was 30 hours but I wasn’t terribly worried about the time, though it would be a first, I was worried about heat indexes ranging from 106-107°F+. We also started at 11 AM and it was already almost 90°F. The heat was the determining factor.
That all being said, I showed up because a friend asked for help. @charlieengle had is 30th anniversary of being sober that day and was running and raising money to support addiction treatment and research using tech to help. How could I say no!
The event ended up being incredibly challenging and rewarding. Amazing people I met and had conversations with over the course of the 30 hours were great. Many were sober themselves and others were there to support the cause.
what I found out about ultra distance events, especially ones like this that are not an actual race, it’s easy to have some amazing real connection with the other athletes that are participating. I want to thank all of you for your hard work, and everything that everyone did to make that event amazing.
And remember everyone there’s a lot to be learned in the discomfort zone, so do hard things every single day. You’ve only got one life on this earth that I know about and it should be an amazing one.
