Dog killed what looks like a snake in the creek

The dog went down to the creek (which isn't running at the moment due to drought) and we saw him splashing around chasing something. We then saw a sizeable dead snake floating upside down. Looks like a python. A lot of wildlife has sought shelter escaping from the bush fires. It's not something we want the dog doing, taking on snakes. A lot of dogs get killed that way and the snake, wasn't hurting anyone is now dead.
