Fixing a Sailboat Autopilot - Raymarine Rotary Drive Type 2 Autohelm (gear replacement)

After a rough crossing from Puerto Rico to The Dominican Republic, we noticed a grinding in our wheel when the autopilot/autohelm was on. With no issues of the chain catching, we believed it was coming from the rotary drive unit.

After taking the Raymarine Rotary Drive Type 2 apart, a screw fell out of the gear housing, and the plastic planet gears inside had their teeth nearly worn all the way down. Every Raymarine dealer wanted us to send the entire unit in, but we knew we only needed to replace the gears. No US dealer was able to sell us the part or knew the part number, but we ended up finding out the gears were part N023 and found them from a European dealer online and had them send to us for around $90 USD.
