Reading Florida House Bill 1557 | Why understand X if you can just hate X?

Due to the nature of our governments, it’s common for bills to do the opposite of what they claim to do. I read HB 1557 the Florida bill about what schools discuss with 3-8 year olds, define the terms used by those for or against it and try to understand the underlying reasons behind the political rhetoric and reaction to it. Despite relatively free access to information about laws, some continue to accuse others of acting in ignorance while counting on their ignorance of the law.

Problems occur due to how we define X rather than what X is. If schools were focused on education there may not be a need to regulate what adults can say to kids about their privates in this public setting. HB 1557 literally doesn’t say what the loudest opponents claim it does, assuming they can read then 7 pages would not be too much to ask of people who say they are interested in helping kids rather than…
