A few years ago I was led through a series of trials by an inner voice whose object was to teach to me the the power of mastering fear through a series of tribulations ranging from confronting my fear of heights, meeting dozens of rattlesnakes in the middle of the night, to jedi mindfucking a police officer that appeared under extremely improbable and highly synchronistic circumstances.
There is a lot of talk these days about manifestation and the Law of Attraction...and most of it is nonsense. The fundamental idea, however, is absolutely true, and essential for any evolving soul to understand. Acquiring access to new faculties and higher modalities of consciousness is wholly useless in the absence of willpower and discipline. In fact, one can find oneself in a lot of trouble if each step in this journey are not taken mindfully. Just ask the Sorcerer's Apprentice.
