Preparing for Breeding Season // Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats

Breeding season for our Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats has begun and here’s what we’re doing to set ourselves up for success this fall. Our morning farm chore routine includes milking our does, putting our goats on pasture, and letting our free-range chickens loose to wreak havoc on the local insect population.

We’re kicking off an exciting time of year on the farm as a couple of our Nigerian Dwarf does have been turned in with our buck, Benji. This will be Minnie Pearl and Calamity Jane’s first kidding, as well as Juniper, another doe who has been with our friends at Sage and Stone Homestead. Benji is Juniper’s sire so we can’t breed her to him; she has been with their buck and will be returning to the farm soon.

Our morning homesteading chores include milking our goats, putting the goats on pasture, and letting our free-range chickens out of the coop. Goats are creatures of habit and this morning we completely wrecked everyone’s routine. While they’re a bit peeved at us today they’ll get adjusted and settle in shortly.

We raise dairy goats because we enjoy goat milk and will one day make cheese, soaps and lotions, and maybe even butter. If you are interested in these things please subscribe to the channel. Thanks for watching this video – see y’all soon!
