HNewsWire: A New York court invalidated a legislation that authorized the state government to detain even healthy persons in quarantine camps indefinitely without judicial oversight.

The New York Department of Health has enormous ability to impose quarantine restrictions on residents until July 8. The state’s Rule 2.13 granted it this authority.

Legislators never voted to authorize the New York Commissioner of Health to place someone in quarantine for an indefinite period of time.

During the COVID-19 epidemic, Gov. Kathy Hochul and the Department of Health ordered the guidelines for the rule.

The rule was then renewed every 90 days by the state. Respondents informed the court that the commissioner sought to make the regulation permanent.
