"The Baha'i Faith, the world's newest independent global belief system, teaches the oneness of God, the unity of humanity, and the essential harmony of religion. It is the world's second-most widespread religion after Christianity, spanning the globe and working to unite it." -Baha'i Teachings

"The Bahá'í Faith is an independent world religion, begun in the middle of the 19th century, with communities in over 205 countries (Barrett, 1988). The people of the Bahá'í faith regard Bahá'u'lláh, the prophet-founder of the faith, as a manifestation of God and view his writings as divinely revealed. Bahá'u'lláh (1976,1978) emphasized developmentalism, including physical, social, and religious evolution. Bahá'u'lláh taught that truth is simultaneously absolute and relative. For example, God's knowledge is absolute but human knowledge is always relative. Therefore, humans can never be all-knowing, but can always become more-knowing. Bahá'ís believe that God is manifested periodically through personages such as Abraham, Krishna, Buddha, Moses, Christ, Muhammad, and Bahá'u'lláh. God's purpose in doing this is to reaffirm regularly to humans eternal spiritual principles such as love and justice. Because social conditions change in different epochs of human history, these messengers of God reveal different laws and social rules that are applicable to a particular time and place." -Origins of the Baha'i Faith

Many people now realise that we are entering a new age, known to some as the "Age of Aquarius". The former age was dominated by male characteristics, leading to aggression and obsession with power, but the new age concept is based on a balance of male and female qualities, leading to a more complete and rounded human character and civilisation.

As the former age passes, many individuals are searching for the direction which their own lives should take. Central to Bahá'í thinking is the belief that spiritual life is the true reality. Only through personal transformation can each of us achieve true happiness. While we are in this world we should be developing spiritual qualities which we will need in all the worlds of God. Bahá'u'lláh, the Founder of the Bahá'í Faith, wrote:

"Wert thou to attain to but a dewdrop of the crystal waters of divine knowledge, thou wouldst readily realize that true life is not the life of the flesh but the life of the spirit .... "

Spiritual development requires spiritual methods. The new age is a time of increased spiritual consciousness, and requires inner effort rather than outward ritual. It is through meditation that we open up the channel to our inner being, and through prayer that we open up the channel to the Creator.
