Bird Watching At The Wellhead

It's feeding time at the Wellhead in our yard and all the birds and a couple critters come out on a January day for a snack.
Our surrounding neighbor, Fort Smallwood Park consists of 90 acres at the tip of a peninsula where the Patapsco River and Rock Creek meet the Chesapeake Bay. Over 260 species have been reported on eBird to either pass through or make the area their home. We see all kinds but these are some of our year round residents. A couple years ago we had a couple families of Blue Jays move in after being absent from the area for many years. Many of them are smaller and this is their first or second year but still very smart. The squirrels are getting wise to their Hawk imitations but they still spook the rest on occasion and actually steal from the squirrels. The males stand guard for the female Cardinals while all are trying to get their cut. Then in flies a Woodpecker for a brief appearance or two.
