The Gospel Message (The Source)

Hello, my name is Jonah Saller

I have one mission. One vision. One calling.

That mission is to share the freedom, and the identity that is found in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

See, I believe that the popular gospel message of today is missing something.

We talk about how we are forgiven people through the blood of Jesus Christ…

…But we stop there.

How can we possibly stop there?

We say things like, “I’ve been born again.”

But do we even know what that means?

The truth is. Jesus didn’t just come to offer forgiveness for sins.

He came to change your identity.

Popular teaching today says,

“WE must fight against our sin nature.”

“WE must strive to live righteously.”
“WE must be faithful and endure to the end.”

That sounds good, doesn’t it?

But that’s not the gospel.

The gospel says,

“JESUS put to death your sinful nature.”

“JESUS made you the righteousness of God.”

“JESUS has started a good work, and he will bring it to completion.”

The reality is, God’s standard is perfection.

In Matthew 5, Jesus says,

“You therefore must be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

He wasn’t kidding. He wasn’t exaggerating.

He was revealing our inability to ever make things right with God.

Isaiah tells us that even our greatest attempts at righteousness are like filthy rags next to God’s standard.

Our works contribute nothing.

Our obedience contributes nothing.

Any attempts we make fall tragically short.

This is why the gospel is the greatest news in the world.

Because of Jesus Christ, we have met God’s perfect standard.

1 Corinthians 6:17 says,

“But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.”

2 Peter 1:3 says,

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness.”

And perhaps my favorite of all, Hebrews 10:14

“For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.”

So my friends,

The gospel doesn’t stop at forgiveness.

Jesus didn’t take your sins away and then say,

“prove yourself to me.”

No.

He joined himself to you as one spirit.

He gave you a new nature.

A new heart.

An obedient heart, with new desires, attitudes and actions.

He made us dead to sin and alive to God.

We went from slaves of sin, to slaves of righteousness.

There is no in-between stage.

Jesus has brought us to completion.

So how do we live the Christian life?

How do we fight sin?

How do we walk by the Spirit?

How do we do anything at all?

Simple.

Trust.

My favorite passage of all time comes from Colossians 2:6.

It says,

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him.”

How did we receive Christ?

By faith

How do we grow as Christians?

By faith.

Jesus Christ is the SOURCE.

He has to be.

If this sounds too good to be true,

Stick around.

It’s true.
