CHIPS Bill: Sound Investment Or Corporate Welfare?

337

The CHIPS and Science Act, which is aimed at boosting the American semiconductor industry, passed the Senate on Wednesday, and the House is expected to vote on it as early as Thursday. It's goal is countering a global microchip shortage as well as shoring up national security. Microchips are used in everyday items like cars and computers, but are also essential for US military technology. While no one seems to be objecting to made-in-America microchips, some are balking at the price tag and whether this amounts to an industry handout. In this episode of America Uncovered, we look at whether the subsidies and tax breaks in the bill are a sound investment or just corporate welfare.

  • Sure it's corporate welfare. But it's better than insurance company & bank bailouts.

  • I'm curious as to how many CEO's are gonna give themselves Huge Bonuses out of this (remember enron?) and just how much is gonna get kicked back to the politicians that voted for it...
