A Tanin is any of a family of compounds that react with proteins to produce a leathery coating on animal tissues and give woods their brown, red, and yellow hues. Tannins are anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and astringent.

Think of it this way tannin rich herbs are used to “Tighten” up over relaxed tissue, such as diarrhea. Tannin rich herbs also protect damaged skin, think of the tough leathery coating from the definition earlier, this would form a protective layer on skin problems such as eczema or a burn. Tannins are also great to help reduce a heavy menstrual flow.

Hold Up! I know this sounds amazing…………. But there are a few more things you need to know before you start making absolutely everything with Tannin Rich Herbs. There can be side effects. Too much of anything can be bad. Tannins shouldn’t really be administered with any other medications simultaneously, as they have the potential to bind or reduce the absorption of the other herbs or medications that a person is taking. When you are mixing herbs, know which ones are rich in tannins and which are not. If you are not using any herbs rich in tannins than your recipe is probably good. If one of your herbs falls on the list linked in the description below, then lower the amount that you are putting into your formula.
