Scot Plays #5 // Recording Bass for "Take Da Jive"

Welcome to Scot Plays #5! This time around, I'm playing bass on Track 9 of Cat Corelli's new album, "Take Da Jive". This is the title track, so therefore, "Take Da Jive", coincidentally!

I'll walk you through a play-through of the last 32 measures of the track in little eight-measure sections, showing you the MIDI text I'm playing through, explaining each section as I go, and giving you a mix of what I'm hearing in my headphones. Then I'll string the whole 32 measures together in a screen capture screen and let you follow along the recorded bass part.

I'm playing my Ibanez 5-string bass tuned A-D-A-D-G, as we're pretty much always in Drop A tuning around here. I like the low D there instead of an E because of the closer reach for the D#s!

If you're a bass player, you might enjoy seeing how we go about recording these projects, especially if you're not that familiar with reading MIDI notation. It's there on the screen so you can see what's going on!
