A doctrinal sermon on the few (five) instances of the words heresy, heretic, heresies in the King James Bible.
Early warnings were given by the apostles regarding false teachings that would enter into the church to mislead the faithful with perversion of the truth. Ways to avoid and drive out these incursions are also recorded for our present day vigilance and practice in dealing with such matters in our lives, our churches, and our culture.
At heart, the heretic by separating himself and his followers from the truth of Christ, likewise separates from the liberty which is found in Christ alone. Those caught up in heresy place themselves in chains of their own making; and ensnared therein are easy prey for the destroyer who hates them.
Fidelity to the word of God (acknowledged to be found in the KING JAMES BIBLE and NOT in corrupt modern versions brought forth in the spirit of heresy) is taught as an essential shield for the battles in which the faithful are engaged. Ability to wield the word of God as a sword to cut down all enemies of your life and liberty as one found in Christ Jesus is likewise a skill to be earnestly prayed for from the Lord.
When wicked deceivers seek to bind us, or cut us down, or wound us with their additions to, subtractions from, or wresting of the word of God, may we in the Spirit and by the power of our Savior be empowered by His Spirit to proclaim "It is written..." to utterly rebuke and repel the assaults against the truth of God that God's enemies are ever busily attempting.
