S1E18 The Homesteaders Guide To Raising Chickens For Meat

In their quest for better food for their families, many homesteaders will eventually raise chickens for meat. On this episode we discuss the types of chickens you can raise for meat and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each option. We also talk about some of the ways that raising broiler breeds is different from raising standard breed chickens. We wrap up the charting the course segment with our experiences raising chickens for meat and our current approach and practices.

We are a small family farmstead in upstate NY. We raise American Guinea Hogs, meat "mutt" rabbits and a variety of heritage chickens. We also have started raising Cornish Cross broilers.

We have a large garden comprised f raised beds and do a lot of canning and freezing of vegetables. We also do some fermentation as a means of food preservation and introducing natural probiotics into our diet.
