Hear Dorothy Dewitt (Consensus 2019 panel speaker sitting on the far right end of the table) explain how CoinBase’s legal evaluation framework determined XRP was NOT a security and the SEC failed to object to XRP being traded on the CoinBase exchange. Dorothy currently serves with the CFTC and she is an attorney specializing in fintech, investment and securities regulation. She served as General Counsel – Business Lines and Markets for Coinbase, a large global cryptocurrency exchange and custodian. Previously, Dorothy served as the COO of Legal & Compliance at Citadel Securities, seconded from Davis Polk. Dorothy also served in legal roles implementing strategic initiatives at S&P Global at JP Morgan. Dorothy was a partner at Cadogan Management, an alternative asset management company where she managed the global investment team before establishing the office of General Counsel, building an institutional investment platform that led to an increase in AUM from $1b to $8b and a successful sale of the company. At GAM in London, Dorothy managed $2b in arbitrage, credit and relative value hedge fund investments in GAM’s Multi-Manager Group, launching and serving as portfolio manager of GAM’s Multi-Arbitrage Fund. Dorothy started her alternative investment career as an investment analyst at a hedge fund at ING Furman Selz. Before joining the buy side, Dorothy was a litigation associate at Davis Polk. She joined Davis Polk after clerking for the Honorable John E. Sprizzo of the Southern District of New York. Dorothy earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School, cum laude, and a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, summa cum laude.
