Komarov once said, "if I don't go, I will go to Gagarin". When soyuz-1 was about to launch, Komarov and technicians found 203 structural problems. They knew they could not return safely before liftoff. But in order to protect their close friend Gagarin, and also to wake up the top leaders who were politically confused, they still insisted on boarding soyuz-1, ringing the alarm for the world with their lives, and became the first astronaut to die for manned spaceflight
