During the past 30 months, Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara has been the victim of 32 incidents of harassment by police. Of these, 27 have been arbitrary detentions, several with the use of force and violence, the majority in solitary confinement and short periods of disappearance. Generally the authorities refuse to inform the place where they keep him detained. In 2019 alone, the PNR arrested him 15 times, and four so far in 2020. None of these arrests have been judicially supervised. At least six Habeas Corpus have been submitted in his favor. The Provincial court of Havana has only responded to two.
The video corresponds to just a few arbitrary arrests and harassment incidents from the totalitarian state vs artist Luis Manuel:
2018- July: Performance in Havana vs the 349 Decree in the PCC constitution, one more arbitrary decree from tyranny that targets artistic freedom and makes it a crime against the State.
2019- April 11: Performance with the US flag: running around or walking with the flag- that seems to be a “criminal” activity by the tyranny. The police here almost arrests an underage kid. Shot by Michel Matos.
2020- February: after the collapse of the balcony that killed 3 girls in Jesus María, Havana on Jan 2020, ( due to negligence by the Ministry of Construction #MICONS) artist Luis Manuel Otero started to walk around wearing a construction helmet as a performance with the text “children should not be killed by building collapses.” He was arrested for this.
The latest on March 1st, 2020 he was beaten and arrested for walking outside his home and supporting an LGTBQ protest vs censorship, his girlfriend Claudia Genlui beaten by #PNR and her cellphone stolen because she filmed his violent arrest. He is currently held in the Valle Grande prison with a charge of “vandalism,” his head was shaved and could be facing a 2-5 year prison sentence. In #Cuba, the communist regime has a history of fabrication of charges against anyone they want, you are always guilty. There is no justice and freedom.
