Barney Google and Snuffy Smith, is an American comic strip that was created by cartoonist Billy DeBeck in 1919, the feature had an international readership, that appeared in 900 newspapers and 21 countries that eventually led to animated films, song and television. It added several terms and phrases to the English lexicon and was the inspiration of the 1923 hit tune "Barney Google and phrase Goo-Goo-Googly Eyes. The lyrics also written by Billy Rose, in the 1923 record, "Come On, Spark Plug!"
Snuffy Smith, appeared originally as a supporting player in 1934, later overtook Barney Google's position as the primary character as the comic strip's main character now for over 60 years. The feature is still titled Barney Google and Snuffy Smith.
