Dutch Farmers Protests Explained | Why Dutch Farmers Spray Manure On Government Buildings In Protest

Dutch Farmers are protesting government regulatory crackdowns on their livelyhoods.

They are expected to reduce nitrogen oxide and ammonia emmissions by reducing number of livestock and using less fertilizer. This will drive many farmers out of business as they can't run a farm with such a reduced number of livestock.

The protests started in 2019 as Dutch Farmers blocked governmental buildings and caused traffic jams. Now they are protesting a recent peice of legistlation that regulates the amount of livestock each farmer can have.

The upset from the farmers comes as they say other markets that create emissions have not been heavily regulated as they have.
