Apparently Lovecraft didn't much care for this story. I like it. So do a lot of other people. Always interesting to see how an artist rates their own works versus how the public rates them.

There seems to be, if you read various forums and websites, a great deal of confusion about the flying polyps. Especially since several times in this chapter the phrase "elder things" is used in talking about them, which is also the term Lovecraft uses in "At the Mountains of Madness" to refer to Old Ones, which are definitely not flying polyps.

In some aspects the flying polyps seem to share many qualities in common with the Dunwich Horror, but not enough for equivalence.
