Ledgers, Spreadsheets, and Databases, the Emergence of Data Analysis

Once upon a time, there were paper ledgers, which later were represented as spreadsheets when computers were invented. Spreadsheets soon became inadequate to hold all the data that was necessary to run a business, so databases arose to fill the need. In this short introduction, I discuss the rise of the database into a multi-billion dollar business.
