When the project was announced several entertainment industry professionals scoffed at the news. In a Twitter response, television and film screenwriter, producer, and director Steven S. DeKnight equated The Daily Wire and Gina Carano to the Galactic Empire from Star Wars. Actress Lesley Ann Brandt would agree with DeKnight and described both The Daily Wire and Carano as an empire of trash. At the same time, several fans, YouTubers, and critics who felt Carano was wrongly fired by Disney supported her and announced their excitement about this film.
