Still Funny 50 Years Later

Yesterday (Saturday) was Don Imus' birthday so the Mayor asked us to put some together to remember the occasion. We came up with a segue that starts with Don and his brother Fred trying to be rockabilly stars in 1964 singing about being hot rodders and then we swing into 1972 with Don live and on the air at 66 WNBC on a Saturday morning.

It's part of an "aircheck" of him one day so you get him holding sway and not so much of the commercials and other elements though he pretty much talked over the Crusaders' version of "Put It Where You Want It' but then again that was Imus being Imus. All at a time when radio was listened to on a radio and not a cellphone... RIP Don.

Segue City is a recurring short-form programming element. At some point it will be a part of "The Big Kahuna." That’s an Internet Radio format that’s a part of Global Entertainment Technology that was created by Dain L. Schult.

It revives the art of mixing two songs together in a seamless pattern where it is tough to tell where the first song ended and the second one began. Sometimes the segues may also revolve around thematic ideas like matching or similar song titles.

Other times there are hidden meanings and Easter Eggs in the mix as well. We'll try anything because no two Segue City Specials will ever be exactly the same...

At least that’s the idea… your mileage may vary, check with your dealer; so, you don’t forget order before midnight; operators standing by for your important call; Our talent is on loan from God. We just pray He'll let us finish another segue for tomorrow... Member FDIC.. Licensed drivers only. This offer is void where prohibited by law and that normally means it's legal everywhere but in New Mexico... is that gun really loaded or not and where is Alec? Imus actually opened a children's home in New Mexico.

This feature is a four-time winner of the Thomas J. Duke Memorial Music Segue and BBQ Cook-Off Award. Yes, we just won again.
