Sunex Bench Grinder Repair and Modification

This is the main bench grinder used in my shop and it's worked well for the last 6 years. Lately it's started vibrating and that caused the lock nut on the coarse wheel to loosen up and letting the wheel get out of round. This happened gradually so it wasn't noticeable day to day.

The root cause seems to be that the M6 screws holding the base to the motor housing loosened up. Removing the grinder from the pedestal allowed access to the base cover plate. Under that is the switch, wiring and start capacitor for the motor.

I used some Shoe Goo adhesive to fix the base to the motor and then red Loctite on the two screws that held the base to the motor. This has held up for about 9 months so far.

Goosneck lamp was re-wired to turn on/off with the grinder switch. This required making a pigtail wire to connect the light neutral to the switched terminal of the switch and then connecting that pigtail to the motor neutral wire.

I spent the next few weeks truing up the coarse wheel. I used it with some heavy steel parts as well as a dressing stick. The wheel is now running true and the grinder is much quieter in operation.
