A new wildfire in California is spreading dangerously fast in Mariposa County, prompting residents to evacuate as the flames burned 1,600 acres in just a few hours after sparking Friday. As of Saturday afternoon, officials said more than 6,000 acres had burned.
On Saturday, officials said the flames had moved into Sierra National Forest and officials are working with CAL FIRE to respond. Flames had burned buildings and numerous trees near Fresno, Calif.
This is the third wildfire to ignite in the U.S. in just two weeks, with firefighters still working to contain the Washburn and Agua fires. CAL FIRE units battling the Washburn Fire are now being diverted to fight the new blaze. As of Saturday afternoon, the Oak Fire was zero per cent contained.
