03-27-20. Join me during the shelter in place lockdown and get some fresh air as I take out the Bobcat T650 CTL (aka skid steer, MTL, track loader) and I clean up a bunch of field edge around the property with the Blue Diamond severe duty brush cutter. This is just one of many parts of land management projects and improvements for wildlife. May seem insignificant, but field edge is really important as far as wildlife land management goes. Most of our field edge has been taken over by honeysuckle and there is little else that can grow. By mowing the field edge I will open up new areas of sunlight so that hopefully some native vegetation will grow, providing not only good wildlife habitat and browse, but also cover for wildlife such as rabbits, quail and birds. This is on our Southern Illinois farm. There are lots of cool homesteading and modern homesteading channels like homesteady, big family homestead, lumnah acres and more, but we are more of a modern day country living combination with some homesteading here on our farm. We do not grow gardens or animals, but we do enjoy wildlife each and every day as we share the fields and forests with deer, turkey, small critters and more, which is evident by our backyard wildlife videos. So, we invest a lot of time, energy and money to support all kinds of wildlife on our farm, because we know the number one challenge to wildlife is simply loss of habitat. Join me for some fresh air and fun as we clear some field edges around our Illinois farm.
