Eastern Nigeria to Ethiopia. Kenya and Northern
Tanzania. It lives in lowland and mountainous tropical
forests. Leads an arboreal lifestyle. It is kept
in small family groups. It feeds mainly
on buds and leaves. Pregnancy 180-220 days.
1 cub is born. Newborn gwerets have
a white coat.
* The stomach of colobuses has a unique structure: it
is divided into upper and lower parts, the lower contains
gastric juice, and in the upper there are symbiotic
bacteria. During digestion, many toxic
substances present in the leaves of plants are also
decomposed and neutralized. Stomach contents
it can be more than a quarter of the weight of an adult
animal.
