Good Boy Fergus! Is all about having a dog. This is a great little story showing how much David from the No David books has in common with his family pet. Fergus is a good boy even though he doesn't know how to sit or stay or play dead. He gets into things and makes messes sometimes, but he's still a beloved member of the family.
I start out this episode by showing a few of my fish. I don't have a dog, unfortunately, but my fish listen about as well as Fergus. I hope this book puts a smile on your face and helps your kids experience a little bit of what it's like to have a pet even if they don't have any pets right now. It's still fun to see what kinds of problems pets can cause because some of them are pretty funny.
I help with sounding out a little bit in this book too. Hopefully books like this can help interest reluctant readers since most pages only have a few words, but they add so much more meaning to the story if you can sound them out. So I hope by showing how that works, maybe it can help spark some interest in reading for your children. Finding out that each letter made a sound and that you only had to string those sounds together to be able to read was pretty fascinating to me when I was 5. That's how I got started reading.
