Bartholomew and the Oobleck - By Dr Seuss - Read Aloud - Bedtime Story
See what happens when good old King Derwin from the Kingdom of Didd decides he's tired of the normal things that come out of his sky like the rain, the snow, the fog, and the sun. He wants something new. So with a little help from his royal magicians, he has a new type of precipitation brought in. Oobleck, is a green and sticky and terrible substance that gums up birds in their nests and bells in their belfries. As the storm gets worse what began as little drops of oobleck turn into bigger and bigger lumps and slops till all the villagers and farmers are unable to move! The pounding torrents of oobleck outside begin to break the palace's windows and doors, causing all of Bartholomew's friends terrible trouble! It's not until King Derwin learns to apologize that anything improves for his people. This is a sequel to the popular story, The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins. I've made a video of that book as well that can be found at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPmCRrxMQ9w&t=120s
This is a story about leadership, handling mistakes, and apology and forgiveness. It teaches children about redemption and that it's important to acknowledge and communicate understanding when you realize you've done something wrong. It shows the power of learning and growing and the terrible consequences that can come when you won't change course down a path that leads to ruin. It's an insightful metaphor written decades ago about a human condition that still very much affects all of us on Earth. Human beings make mistakes. Sometimes we have bad ideas. We may think they're wonderful ideas that can make everything in the world better because it will be different than before, but then we learn that newer isn't necessarily better. And sometimes we can take a course that needs a drastic change back to a more traditional view. This is part of being a person. Being able to apologize and change course is an important skill that will bless people's lives. We have to learn from the world around us and respond. So I thought I'd share this book in this reading so that you could enjoy it. I've added a lot of fun sound effects and tried to create the proper atmosphere for this story to feel real. Maybe it can spur some reluctant readers, to try some longer stories like this. It can be daunting reading bigger words with more on a page, but the story is that much richer when you add it all up.
