Curious George Gets a Medal
by H.A. Rey
Read by Benjamin Brooksby

It all started when George tried to write a letter. He spilled some ink, made it worse, flooded the house, then had to steal a pump from the farm next door. He let out a bunch of pigs, stole a cow, then went to the Museum to break some exhibits. After he ruined everything there, he was saved by his friend, the man in the yellow hat, who brought the letter that started it all and so they decided to send George to outer space where he'd stand a good risk of flying out into the deep abyss where no one would ever be bothered by him again. George's persistent curiosity leads him to pull the emergency exit lever and he soon returns to the surface of the earth to everyone's chagrin. Since they can't think of what else to do with the disobedient monkey, they just give him an award instead which proves successful. George did nothing else after that, but stand in front of a mirror looking at himself with a medal around his neck. George never bothered or broke anything again, and soon died of malnutrition standing in front of the mirror.

About the Author
Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in numerous languages. And many, many Curious George books have followed.
