Don’t grow with Low Wattage Lamps

Does a low-wattage bulb affect how your plants grow?

The simple answer to this question is yes, but it just isn’t that simple.

For the usual legal reasons, we can only refer to plants in general and will leave it to you to apply any new information to particular plants you may like to grow.

If you have low-wattage bulbs, plants can’t get enough light energy to convert into growth, unless we are talking about delicate seedlings, when ultra-powerful and bright lights can do more harm than good.

However, as plants mature, their needs change, as they also will depending on what variety of plants you are growing.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to the optimum lighting set-up.

In one field of plant growing there is a phrase “gram/watt”.
Its claimed 0.5 grammes per watt of electricity used is a great target, though 0.5 grammes of what we have no idea!!!

The question is, how do you achieve that result when light alone isn’t involved.

Some people like to keep the lights on for just 12 hours a day, while others prefer to have them on for 16 hours.

Then you have to introduce humidity. Do you want it greater or less than 50%. Actually, around 50% is about right anyway!

Add temperature into the mix where you want to be between 65 degrees and 85 degrees, yet you also need good ventilation.

However, none of the above matters if your plants aren’t getting enough light.

Without enough light, your plants won’t grow well, and you will have a poor crop. Give your plants too much light, say, over 18 hours a day and the same will happen.

Obviously there’s far more to it than what we have mentioned, and we’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter.
