Introducing a 5 Week Old Great Dane Into Our Pack

We do not advocate removing puppies from their litter/mom until they are AT LEAST 8 weeks old. Puppies that are removed too early are more likely to be nervous/fearful/reactive, have poor bite inhibition, and very poor socialization skills. Unfortunately, subpar and lazy breeders who only care about money rehome as soon as the puppies begin weaning. They lie about the age to unsuspecting buyers (guilt tripping is very common as well) who struggle to say no once they've already interacted with the puppy. Luckily, Stitch's human enrolled him into our playcare & training program immediately. We were able to continue providing the socialization, rules, and boundaries his mother and littermates would have taught him had he been able to stay with them the full 8 weeks.
