#GVOS2020 - Vanda denisoniana ‘Dark Chocolate Star’

13

This vanda took a few months to settle into my environment. However, once it did, it now blooms 3x a year, with double spikes. This footage is of late winter / early spring March 2020, and the blooms are a burgundy red, like a nouveaux beaujolais. The warmer season blooms open more of a brown / copper color. They are fragrant, but a little off putting; if you imagine the fragrance of fading blooms in a vase, not the water the actual blooms... the hint of the fresh fragrance is still evident, but it there is a note of fragrance 'going over'. They last over 2 months. In addition, this vanda is also maturing a seedpod. Summer 2019, I pollinated it with one of my other vandas, a lamelata x cristata cross. I aim to harvest the seedpod in September of this year (2020).
