Installing 7S Balance Cables

Connecting up balance cables to the new 7S battery packs.

I reused the extension wires from the old 4S balance cables and added 3 new wires for the 7S balance cables to minimize waste. A 7S balance board was fabricated to replace the old 4S board using perforated circuit board with linear copper traces. This allowed the 8 pin JST-XH to be soldered in place. At each end an 8 pole 0.1" terminal block was added for connecting to separate wires.

Planning ahead, this balance board will likely serve as the main connection point for each slide out shelf which in turn will hold 4 battery packs. So I'll be building additional 4 connector boards like this for each shelf. Then there will be a 7S balance cable from each shelf up to this main balance connection board. Likewise, each shelf will have a single power connection with an Power Pole connector into the main battery bus. This should allow for easy isolation of a slide out shelf to allow for work on any battery on that shelf.

More to come, testing the capacity of the 3 - 20P battery modules freed up in the 4S to 7S conversion...
