Adding Trail Gaiters to Cycling Shoes

Setting up the new Pearl Izumi cycling shoes with gaiters to keep socks free from stickers during off-trail excursions.

With the lace-up shoes from Pearl Izumi, it was easy to add a Velcro tab at the base of the heel to attach the Trail Gaiters to. I found that ShoeGoo adhesive stuck well to the shoe material and then either use a non-adhesive backed Velcro tab or remove the adhesive with acetone.

With this style gaiter, you first slide it over your foot and then put the shoe on. Then clip the front hook under the laces and fasten the back Velcro tab to the heel. You can easily ride with these gaiters on and heck, might even shave 10 watts off your air resistance :)
