What lessons can we learn from the life of Elijah? God wrought a work of revival in Elijah's day.

Where is the LORD God of Elijah? He is still the living God.

Elijah came from nowhere. He was an unknown, a nobody. 1 Kings 17:1 And Elijah the Tishbite... said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

Elijah means “my God is Jehovah”. Elijah was human. He had real human frailties and feelings. James 5:17 …a man subject to like passions as we are. He fled from a woman, yielded to discouragement, and ran away from duty. Even so, Elijah is a Role Model for us. He relied on God.

Elijah was called a Man of God. 1 Kings 17:24 ...Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

The Word of God was at work in his life. 1 Kings 17:2 And the word of the LORD came unto him… He applied the Word.

The Hand of God was upon his life. The power of the Holy Spirit. 1 King 17:46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab...

God was in action in Elijah’s life. He had faith, courage and zeal. He stood up to danger, royalty, and famine. Elijah had the courage to stand for God’s truth and rebuke the king for his evil ways. 1 Kings 18:17 Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel? Elijah wasn't afraid to speak out against evil.

Ahab promoted the worship of Baal. The nation was backsliding. Elijah was willing to trouble those at ease in Zion. He confronted sin.

Elijah repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down. 1 Kings 18:30. God’s people had neglected the worship and honour of God. Elijah restored and revived faith and true worship.

Elijah killed the enemies of God - the False Prophets. He confronted the worshippers of Baal. 1 Kings 18:40 …Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there. The evil seed had to be destroyed.

Elijah withstood the apostate king, the backslidden nation, and the idolatrous priesthood. He cut out the cancer of the false prophets and their evil. He dealt severely with error. To promote truth you have to fight error. Let us also get back the uncompromising stand.

Elijah was mighty in prayer; he prayed earnestly (James 5:17).

Where is the Lord God of Elijah? He is alive: He is real, alive, active. He is the true and living God. He is still real and present and ready to meet our deepest needs.

God answers prayer. 1 Kings 17:22 And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. Elijah heard the voice of the Lord, and the Lord heard the voice of Elijah.
The Lord cares, He sustains, He provides and blesses His children with gifts and graces.

Elijah was in touch with God. James 5:16-18 … The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Elijah was a man just like us. An ordinary man. The spirit of Elijah was the spirit of prayer. He prayed earnestly. Literally, He prayed in prayer.

God actively worked in answer to prayer. Elijah prayed and God answered - with food and - with fire. Elijah was sustained by ravens, the widow and the angel.

“The God that Answereth” must be the living and true God. 1 Kings 18:24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.

Elijah’s prayers were simple and reverent: 1 Kings 18:36-37 ...Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. 37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.

Elijah talked about the God before whom I stand… he knew the presence of God. The secret place of the most High.

Elijah restored the altar— it speaks to us of access to God. 1 Kings 18:37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. 38 Then the fire of the LORD fell… And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.

Where is the Lord God of Elijah? He is Jesus Christ the Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever.

Elijah was subject to like passions as we are. He was very human.

Let us listen for the still, small voice. His leading and guidance.

Know that God will answer your need. There is a sound of abundance of rain. The blessing of God is there for us, as we trust in Him.
