1st Gen 4Runner Power Window Operation

This should apply to the mid- late-80s 4Runner, pickup, Hilux and Hilux Surf models with power windows, likely the SR5 models.

From 1985-1995 Toyota used very similar power window switches but added features to the system. Apparently in the mid-80s, there were some reports of children and pets being injured by power windows being closed inadvertently while they had heads or appendages sticking out of the window.

The early model rocker switches were easy to operate, up or down. But this meant that they could be actuated by accident. Later model switches require that you hook your finger under the switch to lift it and raise the window. Also, a power window lockout switch was added to disable the passenger power window switches altogether.
