Fenix LD02 Flashlight Switch Repair

Repairing the intermittent switch in my Fenix LD02 flashlight.

After 6 years of daily use, the switch in this flashlight started acting up. It still worked but would take multiple button presses to get it to turn on. Finally it got bad enough that I decided to try and repair it.

I found this thread on the Candle Power Forum:

That showed how to take the flashlight apart. I made a quick tool out of some scrap aluminum to hold the bottom of the flashlight and then used an adjustable wrench on the flats on the body to break the thread locking compound loose and remove the switch end. The switch assembly was pushed out and then the switch was pushed out of the metal housing.

At this point, I opted for some contact cleaner and silicone lubricant to try and restore the switch operation without tearing it apart further. That seemed to do the trick. I found you need to get just the right amount of twist on the switch end when it's screwed back into the flashlight body. Perhaps that's one reason they used thread locker there, to hold it in just the right position. If you need to fully disassemble your switch, see the thread on the Candle Power forum above.
