A student who survived the Parkland school shooting revealed to a Florida court on Wednesday the scars from where he was shot five times by defendant Nikolas Cruz.

On the third day of the Parkland shooter trial, the state presented multiple witnesses and former students that experienced the shooting on Valentine's Day of 2018 firsthand, where 17 people died at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

One of the witnesses was Anthony Borges, who told the court how he lay down after being hit by the shooter until help arrived.

Many in the gallery are family members, and appear visibly distraught hearing witnesses describe what took place that day and in their lives afterwards.

Cruz pleaded guilty in October 2021 to the premeditated murder of 14 students and three staff members at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., about 48 km north of Fort Lauderdale. Cruz, who was a 19-year-old expelled student at the time of the massacre, will be sentenced to life in prison without parole if any of the 12 jurors objects to the death penalty. Their decision could take several months.
