NOTE
I had intended to connect the First Reading from 1 Kgs 19:19-21 to today's Gospel. I forgot and inadvertently left it out. The following were my thoughts on that connection:

In the first reading Elijah is looking for his replacement. He finds Elisha plowing the fields. He puts his cloak on him and asked him to follow him. Elisha knows that this will be a hard commitment. Because he will have to leave his family and never see them again. He agrees to follow Elijah but first he must see his family. You see, Elisha knew what the commitment meant and took it very seriously. As people of faith we should take our commitments, oaths, promises very very seriously.
