Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics (Switch) - Game #26: Speed

Game #26 on our list of 51 Worldwide Classics is finally another card game that I have had prior experience with: Speed! In this game, both players play with their own deck and place four cards in front of them and then flip the next one over onto the center of the table. When the word "Go!" is said, players race to play their cards in the center, placing any card one higher or one lower than either of the center cards on top of that card (the King and the Ace being connected as well, so you can play an Ace on a King and vice versa), drawing from the deck to replace any played cards. When neither player can play, they flip up one card from the top of their deck at the same time and play resumes. There is an option to put a Joker in the deck as well. This is a wild card that can be played on anything and allows anything to be played off of it. The first player to get rid of their entire deck wins.

There are four levels of difficulty for the CPU players: Normal, Hard, Amazing, and Impossible, which must be unlocked in order. Beat the Impossible CPU to master the game. Also, each time you play it, you can unlock a piece of trivia about the game. There are three pieces of trivia about Speed:

1. This game is about fast action, which is unusual for card games.
2. In Japan, Speed is one of the most commonly played card games.
3. Signals travel along alpha motor neurons at a speed of 268 miles per hour. Imagine how easy winning would be if you could play that fast!

Personal story: There was a summer camp I used to go to in high school called Cyber Camp, and one year my roommate loved to play Speed with me (certainly much better than taking speed!)
