Quick and simple ways to clear the most common malfunctions of an AR. Note this original AR-601 we used lacks a forward assists and so we didn't not include using one. In all practice, despite our collective 21 years of Active US Army service and three combat tours we do not advocate using a forward assist. While there are some instances which can be solved with a forward assist, if thumb pressure on the bolt alone does not close it then there is likely an obstruction in the chamber which should be cleared before firing.
