The Sun has been getting hotter as it ages, just like all stars do. Humans can't stop that. An asteroid will most likely make humans extinct long before our planet looses its water and atmosphere. Human-beings may not last as long as the dinosaurs. Crazy people warned us 40 years that the Earth would be a snowball again like it was 250 millions of years ago.
