Garlic Harvesting - Phoenix Ankaa In The Garden

Just out in the garden garlic harvesting. Welcome to watching Phoenix Ankaa in the Garden. Most of you know how much I love nature and pay attention to it. I noticed someone or something had been snatching my garlic up, so I decided to reap the benefit of what was left.

I'm in Zone 6a and my dirt seems to get compacted a lot. After harvesting the garlic and garden seeds, I decided to work on the dirt for a future crop. What you see is a large container for container gardening. It's a raised cedar gardening bed.

Since my soil gets compacted and has high alkaline at times, I decided to work on the soil. Had to think of a compacted soil solution. This is a large raised container and at times I forget this. So I mixed some fish fertilizer, acid fertilizer, peat moss, azomite for trace minerals, perlite, and a few more things to aerate the dirt and provide nutrients. I have problems with the alkaline in the soil raising at times, but the garlic was fine since its garlic thrives at a PH of 6 to 7.5. Often, my dirt would try to creep up to a PH of 8 but I managed to get it down between PH 6.5 and 7. I've found also that a coconut coir/perlite mix helps with the compacted soil issue as well. Can't wait until my worm casting tea arrives.

Now, it's time to decide what to grow next! I decided to grow Egyptian Spinach, "The Foods Of The Kings" sometimes known as, "Food Of The Pharaohs". This plant was eaten by Pharaohs in Egyptian Times and was known to have four times the nutrients of regular spinach. This will be my first time growing Egyptian Spinach. The one thing I'll pay special attention to is soil compaction. Soil compaction and high alkalinity have been my main focus in gardening.

The video doesn't show it, but I made sure I placed some Cedar Mulch over the top of the newly planted Egyptian Spinach. Later, I'll add some Blood Meal and Bone Meal depending on how my PH reads over the next few days.

One thing I will use this week is Ferti Lome, Blooming and Rooting which is a 9-58-8 Soluble Plant Food. This is really good to promote green foliage. It's also supposed to be good for planting and rooting.

If you garden and are interested in the products I listed above, I'll be sure to provide the affiliate Amazon links for you. Take care and happy gardening! *Geez I forgot the worm castings lol. Thanks for gardening with Phoenix Ankaa!

Helpful Things For Gardening Mentioned in Video:

A friend told me about the PictureThis app that identifies plants and can diagnose plant issues. It's been helpful identifying which weeds are in my garden and plants I didn't know I had grown like the cowpeas (black eye peas) that started mysteriously growing:
